Spectrum Collapse of Disordered Dirac Landau Levels as Topological Non-Hermitian Physics

چکیده
We investigate disorder effects on Landau levels in Dirac electron systems with the use of a non-Hermitian quasiparticle Hamiltonian formalism. This formalism reveals that spin-dependent scattering rates induce spectrum collapse levels, i.e., disappearance energy gaps between n-th and -n-th under finite external magnetic field. The occurs both weak strong field regimes, thus showing reentrant behavior. Particularly, regime, contrast to naive expectation, increase stabilizes levels. Furthermore, it is revealed associated emergence vortex texture topological winding number complex system.

Analyzing the spectrum of general, non-hermitian Dirac operators
We discuss the computational problems when analyzing general, non-hermitian matrices and in particular the un-modified Wilson lattice Dirac operator. We report on our experiences with the Implicitly Restarted Arnoldi Method. The eigenstates of the Wilson-Dirac operator which have real eigenvalues and correspond to zero modes in the continuum are analyzed by correlating the size of the eigenvalu...

We construct continuum models of 3D and 4D topological insulators by coupling spin-1/2 fermions to an SU(2) background gauge field, which is equivalent to a spatially dependent spin-orbit coupling. Higher dimensional generalizations of flat Landau levels are obtained in the Landau-like gauge. The 2D helical Dirac modes with opposite helicities and 3D Weyl modes with opposite chiralities are spa...
متن کاملObservation of Landau levels of Dirac fermions in graphite
The unique electronic behaviour of monolayer and bilayer graphene is a result of the unusual quantum-relativistic characteristics of the so-called ‘Dirac fermions’ (DFs) that carry charge in these materials. Although DFs in monolayer graphene move as if they were massless, and in bilayer graphene they do so with non-zero mass, all DFs show chirality, which gives rise to an unusual Landau level ...
متن کاملCollapse of Landau levels in gated graphene structures.
We describe a new regime of magnetotransport in two-dimensional electron systems in the presence of a narrow potential barrier. In such systems, the Landau level states, which are confined to the barrier region in strong magnetic fields, undergo a deconfinement transition as the field is lowered. Transport measurements on a top-gated graphene device are presented. Shubnikov-de Haas (SdH) oscill...
